Paloma is a serious and highly articulate but deeply bored 11-year-old who has decided to kill herself on her 12th birthday. Fascinated by art and philosophy, she questions and documents her life and immediate circle, drawing trenchant and often hilarious observations on the world around her. But as her appointment with death approaches, Paloma finally meets some kindred spirits in her building's grumpy janitor and an enigmatic, elegant neighbor, both of whom inspire Paloma to question her rather pessimistic outlook on life.

| And then, if the book is mediocre at best, definitely do NOT see the movie. To make this a film, for some reason the girl is given a video camera rather than a diary. Why? Is watching someone squint into a camera inherently more compelling than watching someone write? Anyway, this is a puff piece at best with Josiane Balasko cast as a stereotype...the concierge with a secret life. She did her best with a poor script. |

| This movie was a marvelous character study/coming of age movie about a little girl who plans to commit suicide. Rather than being depressing, the movie is filled with multi-dimensional complex characters who charm the viewer as well as the little girl. The ending is life affirming and leaves the viewer feeling light as a feather! |
