Feminist film director Amy Jones and feminist novelist Rita Mae Brown collaborated on this by-the-numbers slasher gorefest, alleviated somewhat by desultory attempts at developing the victims as characters. The film concerns an overnight slumber party, attended by a group of nubile young women, who find themselves harassed by a gaggle of over-sexed young men. Their sexual escapades are punctured by the intrusion of an insane killer wielding a power drill. But the women rule the day when the lone survivor of the killer's hydraulic drill bands together with her sister and a neighbor to form their own posse and hunt down the murderer. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

| Brodiesgirl might like to know that the slasher flicks she puts down are alread ALREADY about "girl power." 5 pages of Carol Clover's "Men, Women and Chainsaws" should set her straight on that count. |

I must have passed over this movie at least 300 times in the video stores growing up. I love horror movies, but I can only take so much of slasher flicks focusing on big-breasted dumb-witted girls. I was tricked into watching so many of them, that I felt the title "Slumber Party Massacre" and the picture on the box was a nice warning sign for me to keep away. Then I read some Rita Mae Brown in college, discovered that she wrote this cheesy slasher flick, and that a girl directed the movie! With VHS almost extinct coupled with my forgetful memory, it took me a looooooong time to finally check this movie out. But I did! **SPOILERS** I must say, most of the movie played as expected. Really horrid acting, some T&A, an extremely weak plot. However, it was worth it to witness the victim-role girls take over and kick the killers ass! That was worth the schlock of what was otherwise a decent but average slasher flick. The most annoying part of the movie was that the killer appeared from almost nowhere to me. I had to rewind and figure out where the heck the guy was from, only to see that he was a random serial killer on the loose mentioned briefly in the news during the beginning of the movie. That was far too random an encounter for my taste.

Overall, Slumber Party Massacre was everything I expected. Horribly cheesy, but in a good way. It's definitely worthy of MST3K-ing with your own rolling commentary at a party along with a big bowl of popcorn and a group of friends.
