The thing that makes this movie so much funs is when you take it into the context of when it was made. Vietnam had just started to bring images of death and destruction to our TV Screens, but Watergate was still just a Hotel in DC. There was some distrust of Government but not on the wholesale level we have today.

Seeing American bodies strewn around an American Town was shocking for its time in the theater and the fact that the movie points to the military industrial complex as the culprit just shows where the influence of the 60's and drop-out generation was finally making an influence on Hollywood.

Even the Hero in this film is seen as the "Odd man out", the anti-hero, was finally taking hold in our culture's movie again from the old days of "Film noir" when the good/bad detective ruled supreme.
Suffice to say, if you watch it and try to remember how innocent we were back then and you'll enjoy the movie more.

No Black Helicoptors yet, no 2nd gunman yet and corporations were not reigning the world yet.

The book was terrific

I read the book many years ago -- it was a fast-paced, scientific and intellectual thriller -- I couldn't put it down.

How was it possible to turn such a good read into such a boring film?!
The acting is unconvincing, the plot devices are petty, and the ending in inconclusive.
