Synopsis
Mugen's a buck wild warrior - violent, thoughtless and womanizing. Jin is a vagrant ronin - mysterious, traditional, well-mannered and very strong as well. These two fiercely independent warriors can't be any more different from one another, yet their paths cross when Fuu, a ditzy waitress, saves them from being executed when they are arrested after a violent swordfight. Fuu convinces the two vagrant young men to help her find a mysterious samurai "who smells of sunflowers." And their journey begins. This is a story about love, friendship and courage... NOT!

Once again Shinichiro Watanabe has created a masterpiece that takes a bit of getting used to because it is so different. Here we have a lot of authentic elements of Edo era Japan all mixed up with modern day hip hop, detective stories and beetle wrestling (apparently a new Japanese craze).

I'm no fan of hip hop but the series intro song "Battle Cry" really surprised me. I love it!

The whole series seems to be an exercise in creative anachronism. For an excellent site chock full of details check out:

It has lots of explanation regarding the historical references in the show. Plus an extremely detailed episode guide. Spoiler warning!!!!!! ;)

most people have seen it already on CN. Its cool, made by one of the main guys that made Cowboy bebop and the anime in kill bill.

cool music, although the weaving of the anime and hip hop was a little overdone in the first episode.. made it a little cheesy, but it got better after that.

All three needs are met. by razornails May 17, 2005 - 7:49 AM PDT

There are few anime series that fulfulls all three elements of anime (art, music and story) in such a way that makes it great. This is one of those series.
Starting from the opening you know this will not be your adverage samurai journey series.
The story over 26 episdoes follows our three main chararcters as they go throughout frudal Japan in search of the Samurai that smells like sunflowers.
By the end of the ending song you are begging for more.
The soundtracks are awesome as well.

If you loved Cowboy Bebop, you will also love Samaurai Champloo.

btw- Champloo is a type of food in Japan.
