Okay. Short synopsis: Guy with amnesia is on the run from two ineffective assasins with the help of a horny Joan of Arc and a porn star. Along the way, they're also being tracked by a bizarro-world version of Michael Stipe.
If that doesn't sound like good cinema to you, then you don't know from fun.
Several times, I had to stop the film because I was on the verge of hyperventilating. And to think I expected it to be serious because it starred Isabelle Huppert. I was expecting "gritty and violent" but got "loony and unpretentious". The characters-even the minor ones-are so ridiculously quirky, it made me wonder if anyone took this film seriously when they were filming.
I had a small problem with the dialogue, though; several times, it seemed to me that the characters were interviewing each other and not interacting in a real way. It's a minor nitpick, though, for a movie that made me laugh so much. This was my introduction to director Hal Hartley, and I hope his other works have the same.. um.. touch. |
