Johnny Miller (Jon Jacobs), a mentally challenged man in his thirties has the mind of an adolescent. He lives with his mother in California. They have a modest life that is predictable day in and day out; Johnny leaves to work every morning, but his job doesn't exist. He takes the bus to Venice Beach and wanders around all day, dreaming that he is a part of the colorful crowd that surrounds him. His mother pampers his childlike imagination. This harmony ends with the mother's terminal illness. The only solution for Johnny is an institution, but by prior arrangement a young woman (Dawn Kapatos) is hired to take care of him. The closeness of Amy Jo gives hope to Johnny that he might be able to turn his dream world into a reality.
