...heartless bastards or somewhat callous entrepreneurs, this is an awesome feature-length "featurette" with Jacopetti and Frosperi (separately because they haven't spoken since their "break-up") going into all the details of their making of Mondo Cane 1 & 2, Africa Addio, Goodbye Uncle Tom and some of their other films.
Not only are they discussing the making of the films (which is fascinating in itself), but the massive scandals that Mondo Cane and in particular Africa Addio created are equally engrossing (no pun intended).
Some of it is discussed in Killing For Culture, but I don't think they covered everything or everything as accurately.
As much as I am getting too old to deal with the animal slaughter (yeah, I'll admit it. A big, tough guy like me averted my eyes) the docu is really a must see for those who are more than just mere fans of exploitation cinema. Hell, I'd even recommend watching their films for their historical context, if nothing else. |
