Like George Lucas' American Graffiti, Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused is an affectionate look at the youth culture of a bygone era. While Lucas took aim at the conservative 1950's, Linklater jumps ahead a generation to the bicentennial year of 1976 to celebrate the joys of beer blasts, pot smoking and Frampton Comes Alive. Set on the last day of the academic year, the film follows the random activities of a sprawling group of Texas high schoolers as they celebrate the arrival of summer, their paths variously intersecting at a freshmen hazing, a local pool parlor and finally at a keg party. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Movie Guide

the more I think about this movie the better it gets. I suppose I have seen it quite a few times and I believe it says a lot about high school. Specifically, how you have a lot of fun which is then punctuated by sheer terror at the sadism of your peers. How important it is for high school kids to be cool and that smoking pot is worth throwing your future away for. The other review chastises the film for being stupid and about stupid people, and I would agree with that, except to say that there are a lot of stupid people in this country and they are stupid in the way they are presented in Dazed and Confused. It's truthfull |

Homeboy Richard Linklater is a bit of a Big Deal here in Austin and I really love "Slacker" and "Beyond Sunrise" is great! But this one....it is just full of the most stupid people on the planet and it is just a sad thang to watch. It is reported to be based on the director's life experience and THAT is so sad. Sadder still, it that when it was filmed at Bedichek Middle School, that mural was added to the school. Then when filming was over, it was restored without the graffiti and they are actually PROUD of this mural with Richard [explictive deleted] Nixon on the school wall!!!
AAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I swear our school district must sniff glue with Linkletter!!!! |
