This was quite frankly one of the best movies I've ever seen based on that time period. It's great because it pokes fun at the absurdity of war, by never questioning the absurdity of war. They seem to find all of the over-the-top circumstances to be perfectly normal.
I loved the score. The Yugoslav gypsy band music just seemed to add to the overall boisterous, and silly atmosphere of the movie.
I found some similarities between the Italian film "Life is Beautiful". |

The movie is an epic, in all the right ways. The thing I remember most about it is the music. The crazy romanian brass gypsy band following the characters around onscreen playing their theme music for them. Goran Bregovic did the music, I ended up buying some of his stuff.
Time to watch it again. |

| I see about 2-3 movies a week and have gotten to the point where I can predict the next few scenes, and sometimes dialog, for pretty much any movie I see. Not this case here- this movie was very original, unpredictable, well acted, well written, and managed to make a pooint about the tragedy and absurdity of war without being preachy. Great movie. |
