Synopsis
When gossip journalist Carrie (Sammi Cheng) investigates the strange case of policeman-turned-model Paul Ko (Louis Koo), who has been put out of commission in more ways than one after being shot in the groin, she finds herself falling for him despite herself. Meanwhile, Carrie's sex-obsessed ex-boyfriend (Lau Ching-Wan) is approached by an equally carnal female (Charlene Choi) and is pleased as can be with the exception of one, rather important thing: Tabby (Choi) is way too young for him. Good Times, Bed Times was directed by Patrick Leung and also features Tony Leung Kar-Fai. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

Unique concept falls flat (no pun intended) by kamapuaa February 4, 2004 - 9:40 PM PST

It's too bad this movie doesn't work. I'm not a romance-comedy fan at all, but I've really enjoyed Sammi Cheng's other movies, where her unique vibe and comedic sense holds together films that otherwise clearly wouldn't work. This is especially true with her more concept-driven movies like Love on a Diet (a romantic comedy done by actors in fat suits), and My Left Eye Sees Ghosts, a goofy take on The Sixth Sense.

This movie is also concept-oriented, about a boyfriend who can't get it up. However, nothing more is made of the concept than a lot of 7th-grade humor. The old boyfriend has a subplot about finding a girlfriend that isn't funny and is too corny even for the genre, and in the end does nothing but take up time. The movie doesn't get resolved, just suddenly it ends - it really feels poorly put together. Worst of all, Sammi Cheng isn't really allowed to do her thing in this movie - she comes off like a Chinese Meg Ryan.
