The biggest impression this film leaves on me is one if disorientation, of being inside a cubist painting. Everything is asymetrical. But it's the torrent of new ideas in 1919 Germany that comes across more vividly than the stock plot and the hammy acting. Worth your time if you don't mind silent, meaningful looks and Tragedy palyed Tragically.

Great for the Video Campfire

Did you ever sit around a fire seeing who could tell the scariest stories? It's the only thing I liked about camping. Now that I'm old enough to Just Say No to smelly outhouses and sleeping on the ground I'm a lot happier, but I still need stories like this one. This German Expressionist painting come to life sets the parameters for anything starring the likes of Bela Lugosi and Vincent Price. Well worth your time.
