| This movie consists of two episodes, "Hikage in an Evil World" (1988) and "Marou with Crazy Fang" (1989), based on a manga by Kei Kusonoki. In a dark and bloody 16th century Japan, Hikage is a young ninja of the Takeda clan who is ordered to find and kill his best friend, Marou, who deserted the clan during battle. In his search, Hikage encounters nightmarish demons and ghosts, and eventually discovers that Marou has become the embodiment of a Yoma (demon) lord planning to unleash death and terror in the world. This is a tired formula but the graphic horror is well-done and the violence is not sexual (no naked women or rape). There are some exciting ninja fighting scenes. Just be prepared for lots of killing and blood and guts. |
