Richard Linklater's third feature -- set, like his other works, over the course of one 24-hour period -- Before Sunrise is a sweet, intelligent romantic comedy filmed primarily in Austria. It stars Ethan Hawke as Jesse, a young American travelling through Europe. On a train he meets Celine, a French student portrayed by Julie Delpy. Together they leave the train to begin exploring the city of Vienna, walking and talking into the wee hours of the night and slowly falling in love as the minutes before Jesse's return to the U.S. tick away. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Movie Guide

A movie that stands on dialogue and repeated close-ups of two faces...what a treat.

Based on the blurb, I was afraid it would be sappy romantic comedy, but it turned out to be really good. It's probably not for everyone (getting on/off public transportation at the last minute is as close as it gets to action scenes) but if you (like me) prefer insightful dialogue to car chases it's a wonderful change of pace. Makes me eager to see what the sequel (Before Sunset) is like -- just bumped it up towards the top of my queue.

what essentially is a two person movie...could of failed miserably.. it doesn't. julie delpy and ethan hawke have the great chemistry that their respective parts needed. and the background of vienna..is great. with smart dialogue and a very true to real life storyline. i found this movie to be more european in flavor (not with just the location).. but with the whole idea behind it.
