The deadly threat of active volcanoes is still a fact of life along the Pacific Rim, and this documentary examines the natural sciences behind such seismic events as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, as well as presenting real-life footage of people confronted by nature at her most violent. Ring of Fire features newsreel footage of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens and the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, as well features on the discovery of a new volcano in Chile and how the residents of the Japanese city of Sakurajima deal with having an active volcano in the neighborhood.
