This one takes some time to get going, so if you rent it, give it a chance. Initially it seemed like just another caper movie with a bunch of men trying to out-tough each other, and the dialog is heavy on swearing. But once it gets moving, the characters are extremely well-developed and each actor does a superb job. I'm not sure if Kevin Spacey won anything for his role here, but he certainly should have. For once Gabriel Byrne gets to be in a good movie and show that he can in fact act when given the chance. And even beyond that, who would have guessed that any of the Baldwin brothers can act? Believe it or not, Stephen Baldwin's very good here. Toss in Benicio Del Toro's first major role, together with an excellent screenplay full of twists and turns, and you've got an excellent film. Definitely worth your while!

| This is an intriguing thriller in the same way that "Silence of the Lambs" was intriguing -- you have to get into the psychology of the characters to figure out what's real and what's not. It's very well done. Kevin Spacey is awesome as Verbal Kint. Watch this film when you have time to rewatch it again, because there will be scenes that you want to check out again. The DVD itself comes in standard size on one side of the disk and wide format on the other. |
