Strange Days back to product details

I don't know why I like this movie

I just do. Cyberpunk, man. Say no more. I think Ralph Fiennes is a great actor, and Angela Bassett's pretty fucking good in this one, too. Juliette Lewis isn't really my type, but she turns it on - I like the scenes with her on stage caterwauling around in the skimpy chain mail. The last 1/3 is hokey, though, IMHO.

Interesting, but includes some very disturbing scenes

I found this movie intriguing, both intellectually and politically. But it's pretty violent overall, and there are a few especially disturbing scenes of rape and murder that I could not bear to watch (or hear). Fortunately, I was able to have someone else in the room watch them, with the sound muted, and then tell me what had happened. If you're not thick-skinned, though, don't watch this movie alone.

great sci-fi neo-noir...

Like blade runner, strange days takes tropes from old noir films-- the disillusioned, corrupt cop turned (sort of) detective, haunted by his past, the femme fatale, paranoia, drinking/drug use, and even trippy visualization of charecter's psychosis-- and places them in a sci-fi milieu. from there what makes Strange days so enjoyable, for me, are the details. starting with the performances. this movie has a fantastic cast-- angela bassett is fantastic, and literally kicks ass, ralph fiennes is great, and, (one suspects) this is where juliet lewis got bit by the rockstar bug, doing a pj harvey song. then there are the little tid-bits that foreshadow the death of tupac shakur. popcorn movie, sure, but more than that too.

it is by turns a political thriller, blockbuster, mystery and neo-noir that predicts in some ways the killing of tupac.
