Writer-director Jack Hill (Spider Baby, Switchblade Sisters) managed to beat Death Wish to the screens by a year with this violent tale of a citizen touched by crime and deciding to fight back. Her little 11-year old sister is a hopeless addict, the police can't help, and poor Nurse "Coffy" Coffin (Pam Grier) has no choice but to take the law into her own hands. Posing as a Jamaican prostitute, Coffy infiltrates the lairs of pimp King George (Robert DoQui) and kingpin pusher Vitroni (Allan Arbus). Eventually, after her childhood sweetheart is beaten into a coma and she finds out her politician-lover (Booker Bradshaw) is involved, Coffy kills everyone with a shotgun. However, by having a black woman named Coffy get injected with a sugar mixture (the crooks think it's heroin), one can only imagine the filmmakers cackling about Coffy with cream and sugar. In fact, the original ad line promised "Coffy...she'll cream you!" ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

...the one with the most nudity!

It's a solid revenge actioner to boot, but the reason to see it is beautiful, lucious FULL FRONTAL Pam Grier, the amazon goddess of black action sleeze. They don't make 'em like this anymore, and it's a shame. Real women have curves, and Ms. Grier is more real woman than most of us chumps can ever hope to see in our pathetic movie-geek lives. God bless Jack Hill for preserving on celluloid this holy visage of female. The divine image of Pam Grier's naked body has the power to heal the sick and bring peace to all the nations of the earth!

Worship at the altar of Pam.

I'll say my expectations were pretty low when renting this. My only knowledge of blaxploitation films was from second hand comments, and MadTV skits, so I was expecting the wrose, but this film was far better than I would have thought. Most of the acting was fair, and most of the bad acting was pretty funny.

Pam Grier looked good in anything she was wearing or doing. There is a decent amount of nudity, but nothing graphic, and no real sex scenes. The action was pretty good, without getting too violent, or at least graphic. Just your usual fist fights and shoot-outs. The GreenCine descriptions IS correct in that there is one very memorable cat fight. Nothing like watching five or six hot women go at, with clothes flying everywhere.

The one main critique I have is of Pam Grier attempting a Jamaican accent in part of the film. I don't know who's idea that was, but Pam should go after them once she's done with the drug dealers. It was the worse accent I've ever heard. She basically did a really really really bad British accent, and then added Mon at the end of every sentence. The good part was she lost the accent most of the time, so it didn't really bother me.

Don't expect much from this film, as far acting and writing, but it's fun. If you're into 70s funk and babes out for revenge, you won't be dissapointed. Plus, Pam Grier's boobs pop out every other scene. Who could complain about that?
