Synopsis
Jet Li stars in this historical Hong Kong action film, as Chen Zhen, a Chinese student in Japan in the 1920s. When his master is killed during the Japanese occupation of China, he returns to avenge his teacher's death. Back in China, he finds himself caught in the escalating racial tensions between the Chinese and the Japanese. The martial arts sequences in this 1994 film are handled more seriously than flashy acrobatics of other kung fu epics of the time and are perhaps a better showcase for Li's awe-inspiring fighting abilities. This story is inspired heavily by Bruce Lee's classic Fists of Fury. ~ Jonathan E. Laxamana, All Movie Guide

The problem with this dvd is the description above is not accurate. The movie is only in English, not Chinese/Cantonese(Original). In other words, only the English, dubbed voices and music are available in this DVD. Languages cannot be changed because there is only one language available in this American DVD: English.
So if anyone does not care about the language, then rent it solely by its action, but live with the option with only listening to dubbed audio. Until the description is fixed, I'm giving this movie a low score.

If you see only one martial arts movie before you die... by DPenn June 27, 2003 - 7:13 AM PDT

I haven't seen the U.S. version of this for a while, but I think the only scene missing is one in which a character smokes opium in a brothel.

But that doesn't matter. Watch it any way you can get it, because this is among the best martial arts movies ever made. Good acting, direction and unparalleled fight choreography by Yuen Wo-Ping. There are a few moments of obvious wirework and undercranking, but nothing that diminishes the amazing hand-to-hand boxing. I should note that this is not a kung-fu comedy, and some of the fighting is fairly brutal.

The anti-Japanese sentiment here is far less overt than that found in the movie's inspiration, Bruce Lee's 1972 brawler, Fist of Fury. Japanese characters are played by Japanese actors, unusual for a Hong Kong production. All in all, a familiar plot is given new life by a superb cast and crew.
