Anime with intellect

This is hardly your typical anime film. Based on the 1st installment of the highly popular manga Kaiji Kawaguichi (writer and artist of the award winning Eagle graphic novels) in the last years of the cold war. The story is controversial, yet realistic and intelligent highlighting the dangerous world of nuclear proliferation and containment to say the least.
Theres no rule which says anime has to only be about giant robots, cute girls and fuzzy creatures. Anime can be political, in fact VERY political as Silent Service proves. Reviews, given the current political climate in the US will undoubtably be negative with the smear of "anti-American" hurled. Anybody else who believes that leaders lie and that weapons kill will think otherwise.
Silent Service challenges the often simplistic views Americans have internalized both about themselves and how complexthe world is, and ultimately that in international relations there are no such things as permanent allies or adversaries. Highly recommended.
