| Well-meaning documentary that manages to combine interviews from actors from across the spectrum (Sharon, Arafat, Carter, Sadat, Hussein, Rabin...). The topic is the conflicts since the creation of Israel so the founding of the state of Israel itself, which is the central issue of the conflicts, is treated cursorily and too quickly. You get the sense that to stay even-handed PBS preferred to be vague on the topic. Tragically the documentary ends in 1999 on a note of hope that contrasts with the present situation. But the coverage of the various crises over the last 50 years is very-well researched and the interviews are priceless, with many behind-the-scene insights and fascinating characters. |
