Synopsis
From the creators of True Grit--director Henry Hathaway, producer Hal B. Wallis, and writer Maguerite Roberts--comes another Western odyssey about an aging gunfighter who reluctantly befriends a young girl. ACADEMY AWARD winner Gregory Peck (To Kill A Mockingbird) is Clay Lomax, who did seven years in Canyon City jail after his partner, Sam Foley (James Gregory), shot him in the back during a bank robbery. When the ex-con is suddenly saddled with Decky Ortega (Dawn Lyn), a six-year-old orphan whose mother was an old friend, Clay is forced to take her on the trail of vengeance that leads to the climactic shoot out. Based on Will James's novel The Lone Cowboy, this was the ext-to-last film of acclaimed action director Hathaway, an OSCAR nominee for The Lives of a Bengal Lancer, and features Jeff Corey (Little Big Man).
