why is this movie worth watching? it's slow in parts. the love interest sub-plot is a little lame. the pot-smoking next-door neighbor is not exactly inspired. the dialogue is good but not great.
BUT you should still watch it. the parts that work, work really really well. cube farms; annoying clueless bosses who have that .... really.... annoying... way.... of speaking when they're taking your life away for some meaningless deadline; the pure hopeless/helplessness of driving in traffic. judge has captured these things to a T.
then he plays a little- his characters go down the roads that so many of us have thought of- petty white collar crimes that go horribly awry; venting frustration at intransigent computer parts; finally saying "screw you" to The Man, and getting away with it! but not in a cheesy hollywood way...
finally, if you ever saw judge's short animated films with Milton, or saw stephen root as jimmy james in NewsRadio, you should watch this film for the truly brilliant acting job that Root does as Milton. pure genius in a sub-plot. |
