Like most collections of sketches, some are better than others. And some are hilarious.

Ed Begley Jr. plays the Son of the Invisible Man, who haunts a local tavern by making spooky things happen. He's naked so his clothes won't be seen. He flies darts through the air which land on the bullseye. Women are unknowingly groped. Thing is, he's the only one who doesn't know he's not naked and no one bothers to tell him. After he interrupts a chess game by flying the pieces through the air one of the bored Cockneys says, "no 'ow did that 'appen? Must be some sort of invisible man."

My favorite is Harvey Pitnik's funeral which morphs into a perfectly cast roast - Steve Allen emcees with roasters Rip Taylor, Charlie Callas, Jackie Vernon, Henny Youngman and Slappy White. Steve Allen's opening pretty much sets the tone, "We are gathered together to put two things to rest - Harvey Pitnik, and the rumor that Charlie Callas is funny." The comics then pay scant lip service to the deceased (Vernon: "Harvey, don't get up.") before launching into their same old Borscht Belt Routines. "But enough about Harvey. Take my wife..."

Among the actors you'll see - Carrie Fisher, Michelle Pfeiffer, David Allen Grier ("Blacks Without Soul"), Phil Hartman, Arsenio Hall, Joe Pantoliano, Rosanna Arquette, Howard Hesseman & Kelly Preston. On the odder end of the spectrum you'll find Sybil Danning, Russ Meyer, B.B. King, Steve Cropper, Huey Lewis, Bela Lugosi, Joey Travolta, Steve Guttenberg and the USC Marching Band.

AWOTM was written by a couple of Tonight Show (with Johnny Carson) and directed by such celebrated directors as John Landis (Animal House) & Joe Dante (Gremlins). It looks like they just made it to have some fun. Don't expect more than that and you just might.
