This film showed Depp in a more serious role (less comical) as a researcher of ancient books. His grasp of spanish, french is shown through the film. This films is directed by Polanski (Rosemary's Baby) and like Rosemary's Baby it gives you that chill on the back of your neck without being gruesome and horrifying. This should be added as a classic to suspense and chilling yet artistic horror film lists. Horror because it addresses topics of witchcraft and the devil ofcourse. Chilling because your thrown into a whirlwind of questions of "why" and the horrifying truth of this is never revealed to you, even at the end of the film. You realize it a few minutes after the film is completed.
