Made me think

I actually bought this DVD before I knew anything about it just because I love Lambert Wilson. Didn't even know who wrote the original story (which has to be far better than the movie). The movie itself is not excellent, kind of too jumbled or something. I had to watch it a couple of time to finally figure out what was going on. There are also a few leaps of faith I'm not sure I liked. Also, no discussion among the time travelers about whether to use modern knowledge in the era they traveled back to--what repercussions might happen to the time continum and such. What I did, and still do, like about it is that it dumped you into a situation that made me think what it might really have been like to live back then. Reading history doesn't give you that mud'n'guts reality--the huts regular people lived in, the way the upper classes could just come and go and do as they pleased to the peasants, how would you identify yourself as a good guy and not the enemy, etc. Role of women, etc. The contrary nature of kings/rulers and their absolute (if temporary) power. Yea, it was a fantasy and I'm sure what was presented wasn't anything even near as beastly and rough as it actually was but it hints at it and my imagination and knowledge of history can take it from there.

A fast forward, dumbed down version of the book.

The book was awesome, so when I saw the movie coming out I was very excited.
It was all for nothing because the movie did not capture the book, it was disappointing.
The movie went too fast, excluded important parts of the book, while dumbing it down for the average popcorn moviegoer.

I think the acting in the movie was way better than the directing or editing.

If you have read the book, dont rent or buy this movie.
If you have not read the book, expect an average or less than average action movie.
