As end-of-the-world movies go, LAST NIGHT is amazing, the best I've ever seen and one of my favorite films of all time. No special effects. At all. But it's subtle, funny, moving, graceful and full of surprise. There's no more night--just constant daylight--and the people of this Canadian city are accepting things as best they can, each in his/her own way: working, praying, partying, having more sex, trying--at last--to make a commitment, even getting violent. This is such a creative and unusual film (by Don McKellar) with a splendid ensemble cast (including Sandra Oh, Sarah Polley, Genevieve Bujold, Callum Keith Rennie and David Cronenberg). Film fans: take a chance on this one. Now that I've learned that "Last Night" is on finally on DVD, it's going right into my queue.
