Brian De Palma returns to the mind-blowing potential of telekinesis in the follow-up to his 1976 horror hit Carrie. While vacationing with his psychic son, Robin (Andrew Stevens), and close associate Childress (John Cassavetes), government agent Peter Sandza (Kirk Douglas) survives a terrorist attack, only to discover that it was staged by Childress so he could kidnap Robin for his own nefarious purposes. With the assistance of another psychic (William Finley) and Hester (Carrie Snodgress), an employee at the Paragon Institute for Psychic Research, Peter discovers a telekinetic Chicago high-school girl named Gillian (Amy Irving), who may be able to help him find Robin. Even though they have never met, Gillian can see Robin's memories and experiences telepathically, and she knows that he is in trouble. But Childress knows all about Gillian, too, and he is not about to let Peter's paternal quest get in the way of his plans for harnessing their psychic power. ~ Lucia Bozzola, All Movie Guide

THE FURY definetly bears all the despicable marks of a good director gone completly hollywood--- a bloated storyline not quite covering up a poor script, a big star (Kirk Douglas) chewing scenery, and a score by captain bombast himself, John Williams. But unlike, say, Gangs of New York, all this cheese hasn't completely drowned out a few DePalma touches that make it worthwhile and a picture made by a individual vision as opposed to a boardroom. So...if you're not a DePalma fan yet, check out DRESSED TO KILL, BLOW-OUT or CARRIE first, then come back. Think of it this way: any movie with exploding John Cassavetes can't be all bad

Everytime I think DePalma can't sink much lower with his next film, I reach back to one of his old ones and see he was never very high on the pedistal to begin with. "The Fury" is certainly one of his most muddled, confused, downright wretched films. It's a revenge film, it's an akward teenager story, it's a paranormal fantasy! It's all and yet none of these things. It's really just a train wreck of a movie with a nice score by John Williams to accompany the idiocy. A real loser.

Good thriller with a good performance from Amy Irving. The star, though, is John Williams' incredible score, one of his least-known but finest.
