Robert Greenwald produces and directs the documentary Uncovered: The Truth About the Iraq War. In order to expose the Bush administration for misleading the public about the Iraq war, Greenwald presents the stories of informed political figures, scientists, and intelligence officers. Includes interviews with former CIA operative Robert Baer, magazine editor David Corn, and former ambassador Joe Wilson. Features interviews with over two dozen experts, including weapons inspectors Scott Ritter and David Albright. Following a series of screenings at public libraries, coffee shops, and university campuses across the U.S., Uncovered was distributed on DVD by Disinformation. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide
When future histories look back at the radical changes currently afoot in the film industry, Robert Greenwald will warrant more than a footnote. Driven by a passionate urgency, he has introduced an entirely new distribution model with his documentaries Unprecedented, Uncovered, and now, Outfoxed: Straight to DVD, straight to the people. On the eve of the theatrical premiere of Outfoxed after 100,000 copies have been sold on DVD, Jonathan Marlow caught up with the very busy, very dedicated director. Full article >>

This is a good, solid documentary, but if you've been keeping up with recent events (by reading the New Yorker pieces or former treasury secretary Paul O'Neill's book, for example), you may not learn much. It could definitely open someone's eyes who has only had time for TV news, though.
This is not a documentary to turn to if you want "Fahrenheit 9/11"-style flash and dazzle. Just the facts, ma'am. |

UNCOVERED: THE WHOLE TRUTH ABOUT THE WAR IN IRAQ is a must-see for anyone who is TRULY interested in how we came to attack a relatively defenseless country. You might disagree here and there, but I don't believe most of what appears here can be discounted. For me, a lot of the "pleasure" came from seeing and hearing people whose articles I have been reading for a year or more. If you are already convinced we've made a grievous error, you will be even more so after watching this film. If you are not yet convinced, this documentary will, at the very least, give you pause to reflect--if your mind is even remotely open and not simply on "remote." Warning: this is no Michael Moore opus; it's non-stop talking heads. But it's the content, rather than the style here, that matters. For an equally good history of the "economic" war that's going on in Iraq, I recommend the article by Naomi Klein in the September '04 issue of Harper's magazine. In addition to providing some eye-opening history, this piece has finally given me an understanding of the Iraqi people who are now fighting our soldiers--and more importantly, WHY they are fighting us. This is state-of-the-art journalism and a good companion piece to Greenwald's UNCOVERED. |
