Synopsis
America Beyond the Color Line With Henry Louis Gates Jr.: South -- The Black Belt is the first installment of a four-part PBS documentary series. Host Gates is looking for the new challenges faced by black Americans over 100 years since W.E.B. DuBois identified "the problem of the color line." He travels to the Southern states that were hotbeds of debate during the Civil Rights Movement. He visits Memphis, Birmingham, and Atlanta to see what has really changed since the 1960s. Includes interviews with actor Morgan Freeman and author Maya Angelou. This series was originally broadcast on PBS in February of 2004. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, All Movie Guide
