One of Britain's longest-running TV police shows, A Touch of Frost has been favorably compared to the American Columbo. Set in Denton, the series detailed the investigations of ultra-methodical Detective Inspector William "Jack" Frost (David Jason) as he tracked down various and assorted miscreants and murderers. Deceptively mild-mannered and disorganized, Frost inevitably lulled his prey into a false sense of security before ultimately springing the trap. He also had a delightful sense of humor, which served him well in his frequent tiltings with his no-nonsense boss, Superintendent Mullett (Bruce Alexander). Based on the novels by R.D. Wingfield, A Touch of Frost made its Yorkshire Television debut on December 6, 1992 with the first of 24 two-hour episodes (there were also a pair of 90-minute installments). After officially completing its run on March 28, 1999, the series occasionally resurfaced in the form of seasonal specials, which like their predecessors, were aired on cable TV in America in the late 20th-early 21st century. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
