In some respects, the plot to Albert de Courville's Crackerjack (1938) anticipates elements of Alfred Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief, and it's about as much fun as Hitchcock's movie, as well. Tom Walls portrays a good-natured gentleman thief (patterned after Raffles) who discovers that his freedom and reputation as a modern-day Robin Hood are being jeopardized by a ring of not-so-good-natured thieves. ~ Bruce Eder, All Movie Guide.

Somewhat reminiscent of the Thin Man franchise, this film takes us into the glamorous world of a gentleman jewel thief, preying on the British aristocracy between the wars. A tight, well-made eighty minute drama complete with requisite song and dance number and a somewhat creepy (to modern eyes) element of romance between the superbly strange looking leading man Tom Walls, here in his mid-fifties, and the coquettish Lilli Palmer, here in her early twenties.
Spats, champagne, stolen pearls, cut-glass accents, a leading man with more sang-froid than you can shake a stick at, this film has it all. Strongly recommended to those who enjoy such things.
