Synopsis
Christopher Walken, Jared Harris and Alison Elliott star in this supernatural tale of terror about a beautiful Ireland-born American young woman who has been suffering from terrible headaches and memory blackouts. On a trip to her ancestral home in the Irish countryside, she discovers that the key to her problems is neither physical nor psychological -- it is the curse of a druid witch that is slowly destroying her. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I have liked all the other Michael Almereyda movies I've seen (he's given us one of the best "Hamlets" on film), but this junk pile really disappoints. A good cast (Alison Elliott, Jared Harris, Christopher Walken and Lois Smith!) can't do much with this would-be horror/thriller that consistently defies credibility and seems alternately pompous and dumb. Almereyda has an interesting visual sense, and he has it again with THE ETERNAL, but a rich atmosphere can only go so far when there's no decent story or dialog. Basically, it's all a waste of time for this talented crew--and us poor viewers. Pity.

Bizarre, senseless and oft-incoherent, these are the movies that make you scream, "That does not make sense!" Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.
