A man whose ideals have been shattered for the last time is out for violent justice in this thriller. Creasy (Denzel Washington) is a former United State intelligence agent-turned-mercenary who has seen too much of the violence and corruption in the world and has become jaded and withdrawn. Creasy is hired to act as a bodyguard for Lupita ("Pita" (Dakota Fanning), a ten-year-old girl whose wealthy family (a Mexican father and American mother) currently lives in Mexico City, where kidnapping has become a near epidemic. While watching over Pita, Creasy becomes quite fond of the girl, and finds himself regaining some of his faith in humanity. But things take an ugly turn when Pita is abducted by gunmen who shoot Creasy and leave him to die in the streets. Enraged beyond reason, Creasy recovers and sets out to find the men responsible for kidnapping Pita, no matter who he has to kill along the way. Man on Fire is based on a novel by A.J. Quinnell, which was previously filmed in 1987 with Scott Glenn as Creasy. Christopher Walken, Radha Mitchell, Giancarlo Giannini, and Mickey Rourke highlight the supporting cast for this remake. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Long, frenetic (in all the wrong ways) and ugly to look at...this movie is just really not good. The story is not too bad, and I just kept thinking "this movie might actually have been good if the director had been better" but alas this was not to be. Oh yeah, the subtitles treat the audience like idiots.

Way better than expected. by dojothemouse April 4, 2005 - 10:25 AM PDT

The trailer for this movie made it look like crap. It's not. A number of scenes have Mtv-style editing that's just overdone and embarassing, but that's the only thing you have to work to ignore. This is an excellent action drama with fantastic acting all around. If you can handle the violence, watch it.

"tear...*sniff* tear...KICK his butt!!" (what was heard while I watched this movie) by DZermeno September 28, 2004 - 11:02 AM PDT

I would have given this movie an 8 but it takes a bit for it to get moving. I had time to pop popcorn, pour a soda, talk to my father-in-law all while the movie was running and STILL not miss anything. Revenge is SWEET in this movie. Yes it is a knock off of 'Walking Tall', but come on.. it's a ticked off DENZEL! It's not as "super-hero cartoonish" as 'Walking Tall' either. I must say little Miss Dakota Fanning was GREAT in this! Christopher Walken was an added treat. I really like everyone's part in this movie. For a taste of sweet.. sweet revenge and all the tears that come with it, watch this one!
