| I've never failed to enjoy a Shyamalan movie, and this was no exception, but it was a minor example. His stories all have an appealing moral quality that goes well with the fairy-tale style. Paul Giamatti is always worth watching. This story, however, is a little random, so the movie mostly has to depend on an eerie quality and the pleasures of watching people try to behave surprisingly well. As always, the director mines a deep vein of sadness around a man who has lost his family to catastrophe and limps along with a truncated life until he finds a reason to let his heart wake up again. |
| Just plain stupid |
