disappointing

Having just seen the 1956 film, I was expecting (hoping for?) a touch of charm and magic. Instead I found 1 hour and 50 minutes of sad slice-of-life in contemporary Paris and less than four minutes total of a red balloon - and the balloon doesn't even interact with the boy! What a letdown.
