| Even if you're a Jess Franco fan you should probably steer clear of this film (completists such as myself excepted). Whereas such early films as "Eugenie" and "She Killed in Ecstasy" are outstanding, "Incubus," like most of Jess Franco's recent films, is excruciating. I've got to hand it to the man: he keeps making films. That doesn't mean you have to punish yourself by watching them. |

...and rent this movie without knowing who director Jess Franco ("Marquis de Sade's Justine," "Eugenie: The Story of Her Journey Into Perversion," "Lust for Frankenstein," "Ilsa - The Wicked Warden" and "She Killed For Ecstasy") is. If you're a Jess Franco fan or just into schlock -- really awful schlock -- you might like this flick; everyone else should steer clear.
Specifically, Incubus is a soft-core, full-frontal porn movie with unattractive actors. It's truly awful on just about every level, including but not limited to the "plot" and the "actors." As icing on the cake, it's shot on video and dubbed into English...and even the voice actors are low-rent.
On the other hand, where else will you see a panty-less 20-year-old woman showing off her shaved "kitty" to her parents? (It fits the plot surprisingly well, since dad had just painted a very explicit picture of daughter jilling off...) And how many movies have a demon daughter being "initiated" with a green, snake-headed phallus strapped to her own incubus mother's hips?
What more can I say? Caveat emptor. |
