Okay in My Book

This may not be helpful, but any movie that begins with Casta Diva is okay in my book. The rest is just an odd mixture of the sublime and the juvenile. The time warps that Ben undergoes, presumably because his insomnia has made him delusional, are an interesting twist, but the device was funnier in Groundhog Day (1993). Here it is mostly the occasion for some lurid fantasies and a cameo appearance by Keeley Hazell. Oh yes, it does give Ben some free time to focus his artistic talent on the object of his affections, and what girl could resist being the obsession of an artist? When the storyline starts to sag, there is a football (soccer) match and a strip tease, sure signs that the writer/director is running out of ideas. The movie worked better as a twenty-minute short, which was actually nominated for an Oscar.

Take time out to see this creative little gem

Short and sweet...

With creative camerawork and special effects, this film's tone and technique is somewhat reminiscent of Risky Business, the only Tom Cruise film I list in my top 100. This is a small film with many pleasant surprises along the way. What really stands out for me is the artistic style of the film.

Cashback is not a hilarious teen comedy type of film, but instead has amusing moments and mature, thoughtful passages. Highly recommended.
